The East African Chapter hosts the First ACRP Certification Exam  

The East African Chapter of ACRP was launched in May 2007 with the support of Kenya Medical Research Institute, Walter Reed Army Institute of Research, Malaria Clinical Trials Alliance and the Business School of Strathmore University with one aim; to catalyze the development of the much needed critical mass of certified clinical research professionals and avail the clinical trials information closer to the trial sites in Africa. To this end Strathmore business school hosted the first ACRP accreditation exam on 8^th September 2007 at their campus in Nairobi.

This is the first time the accreditation exams are being held in Africa outside South Africa. A total of nine candidates (5 from WRP – Kisumu) took the test. 8 were from research institutions and 1 from the pharmaceutical industry; 2 sitting for CCRA, 3 for CCRC, 1 for CCTI and 3 for CPI exams.  All the candidates were very impressed to the exam centre environment offered by Strathmore business school and professional manner in which the entire exercise was conducted. This humble beginning marks a major milestone in the achievement of a prime objective of the like minded organizations listed above to develop the much needed skills in clinical trials.

Apart from hosting for the exams, the EA chapter has lined up a number of activities for membership recruitment, Continuing Education for members and people in the research arena in the countries that we have members. We are currently sourcing partners who would support some of these activities which will kick off in November 2007.We also acknowledge the support of other organizations which provided logistical and fiscal support for the activities of the chapter in year 2007, such as GSK and Clinical Research Management Inc.
